Are You Thinking Responsibly?

My small group recently began a DVD study entitled, "Taking Responsibility for Your Life" by Andy Stanley. [watch here] The premise is simple: before we can make changes in our lives, we must first make changes in our minds. We have to think responsibly.

One thing Andy mentions is that all of us are designed to be responsible.  It is when we act irresponsibly that we create tension in our lives. A tension that only we know. After all, no one knows the real us better than us.

I happened to be flipping through some files and came across this piece of work that makes this point a little clearer.  My apologies to the author as there is no name included on the document in my file.

The Man In the Glass
When you get what you want in your stuggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife
Who judgement upon you must pass;
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.

Some people may think you a straight-shootin' chum
And call you a wonderful guy
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.

If you want 2012 to be any different from 2011, how can you begin to think differently in order to get different results?
